A rather challenging species to grow but one which, when mature, is spell-bindingly beautiful in blossom. A medium to large growing tree, perhaps reaching 15-20 meters at maturity, wide-spreading to vase-shaped in the crown. The tree really requires a humus-rich, moist but well drained soil to perform well. It will tolerate neutral soil, but grows best in acid soils. Roots are very deep and strong.
