It is my privilege to lead a team of passionate, dedicated and highly professional people, who together have made Majestic Trees the success it is today. Since 2001, we have created one of the UK’s leading nurseries, which our industry peers have recognised by honouring us with an unprecedented 4 Nursery Stock Grower of the Year’ awards, firstly in 2008, but subsequently in 2011, 2015 and 2017. Furthermore, in both 2011 in X’ian, China and again in 2016 in Essen, Germany, we went on to win the Silver Rose at the International competition.

In 2022, we were greatly honoured, when our AfterCare, Apprentice and Training Manager, Eliot Barden won the UK Young Grower of the Year. In the 2023 international competition, with candidates from around the world, he was shortlisted to the final 15, then went on to win the AIPH International Young Grower of the Year. Whilst we are understandably proud of Eliot, the wonderful thing about Majestic Trees is that the whole team are the cream of the crop, with over 50% of them having graduated with Masters, BSc, HND, OND, etc in horticulture, including the prestigious Kew Apprenticeships and Diploma programmes, whilst others have completed their apprenticeship at Majestic Trees, or been on the job for so long, and being very able heavy machine operators, that together, make us an exceptional team. As a result, in 2023 the HTA (Horticultural Trade Association) bestowed  on us the UK ‘Grower of the Year Inspirational Business ‘, such is our standing in the industry for not only the quality of our trees, our exceptional services, and professionalism, but the esteem to which our peers uphold us as a company.

As a result, in 2023 both myself and my wife Janet decided to sell 74% of the company to the team through an Employee Ownership Trust. This process provide an earnout to us over a number of years that secures the future legacy and culture of Majestic Trees from profits, and whilst we could have easily sold the company to private equity or one of the major European nurseries for far more money, gave us the satisfaction of rewarding the team, without them personally having to borrow money to buy Majestic Trees.

The company will continue to be run by myself and the management team who have now all become directors, the majority who have been with Majestic since soon after its beginnings in 2002. We are now an even stronger team, with a clear vision of what the future holds, with job security and rewards shared.
