Native to Missouri, this upright, decidious species bears non-fragrant white flowers in flat-topped cymes in spring followed by drupes of eatible black berries which often persist into winter. These are very attractive to wildlife but can also be used for jams and jellies. Glossy, dark-green leaves turn greenish-yellow to reddish-purple in autumn. H7
