A very tidy and attractive columnar form of our beloved native hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) ideal for restricted spaces. It grows to a height of approximately 10 meters, but only 3 meters wide. Unlike the more ubiquitous 'Fastigiata' form, Frans Fontaine preserves the attractive lateral boughs of the species and retains its columnar habit throughout its life. Slow to moderate growth rate. Good wind resistance and deeply rooting.
