Tree Planting and Logistics Team
Job Summary
Our planting and delivery team work closely with our sales and nursery teams to fulfil orders across the UK, delivering and planting large specimen trees in a range of sites from country estates to town homes, RHS show gardens to commercial developments.
- Working Hours – 7:30am to 4pm Monday to Friday, but typically starting earlier and often working later during peak periods
- Holidays – 28 days plus bonus days
Responsibilities and Duties
- Preparing trees for dispatch
- Cleaning trucks and preparing for loading
- Loading/unloading vehicles
- Completing Risk Assessments
- Operating heavy machinery and equipment (training provided)
- Planting trees, shrubs and hedging
- Staking, guying and tying trees
- Irrigation system installation
- Engaging with clients or their representatives
- Filling in and submitting paperwork
All team members may be asked to provide support to other teams as needed.
Personal Qualities: You must be an excellent team player who has a positive, can-do attitude, is logical, good at paperwork, organised and personable. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, reliable, have initiative and an excellent work ethic and be willing to learn.
You will need to be flexible to manage varied schedules, resilient to work in all weathers and physically fit to sensibly meet task demands.
Experience: Candidates should have worked in horticulture, landscaping, or even better have planted trees professionally, but we are willing to train those with the right aptitude. Training may include heavy machinery and HGV training and licensing for those with a natural ability.
Sales Team : Horticultural Advisor/or trainee assistant
Ideall candidates will have strong horticultural knowledge including trees, preferably RHS Level 2/National Diploma or above. Excellent communication, phone, IT and admin skills with attention to detail, be very good at follow up, and dedicated to serving customers on the nursery, whatever the weather. If you have previously worked in landscaping or have planted trees this will be a real benefit to understanding the logistical side of moving big trees, but whatever, a sound commercial awareness is essential.
A normal working schedule is 5 days per week, scheduled over a 6-day week, Monday to Saturday, working every other Saturday. We offer an industry leading package of base plus commission, outstanding benefits and the industry's leading profit-sharing program where 25% of the profits are shared with the team. Skilled Nurseryperson
Team members usually have specimen tree production experience, with a "can do" nothing is impossible attitude whatever the challenge and in any weather. Good pruning skills, container production experience, irrigation knowledge but most importantly a keen understanding of how things grow.
The ability to multi-task, work hard and to deadlines efficiently in a team is essential. Machinery experience and handling large specimen trees is preferable but not necessary. An HND or equivalent would be ideal, but if you can grow and believe you have what it takes, we would like to talk to you. Excellent pest and disease knowledge with a PA1 & PA6 useful.
