A small deciduous tree with whose foliage is of a becoming and unusual shape, exceptionally pretty in spring when new growth unfurls red. The foliage then turns green in summer before phasing to a vivid orange-red to deep red in autumn. The bark provides additional interest, being striped green and white in the juvenile stage. Slow to moderate growth habit. Avoid windy sites. Best in acid to neutral soil.
