Native to the Mediterranean region edging up into France and Germany, this densely branched and rounded tree or shrub is somewhat reminiscent of our field maple. However, the leaves are leathery, shiny and smoothly three lobed; and the decorative red samaras are parallel rather than set at 180 degrees. Tolerates heat and some drought. H5
