'Scanlon' forms a compact conical crown with dense branches surrounding a central leader. It retains this apical dominace into maturity. Red flowers in spring followed by lush green leaves turning a rich, orange-red in autumn. Best on moist, slightly acid soil. Stunted growth and poor autumn colour on chalk. Moderate in heavy clay. Hardy.
