A stocky slow growing evergreen tree with a dense, rounded though often assymetric crown ultimately reaching up to 15m after many decades. Leaves are small, usually serrated. The rugged bark is reddish, sometimes shaggy. Ivory-white bells in sprays appear in autumn as last year's yellow 'strawberries' ripen scarlet. An ideal choice to bring gravitas to a small, immature garden. Prune periodically to promote symmetry, or simply enjoy the unique, free-form crown that emerges.
