Native to the cool, forested slopes of northeastern US and stretching into Canada, the sweet birch offers attrative dark-red to grey bark, highly aromatic shoots and excellent yellow autumn colour. Habit is dense and pyramidal when young, becoming rounded with age. Decorative catkins in spring. Mature height 15m. Does well in all well-draining soils. Tolerates exposure. H7
