The paper birch is one of the largest growing birches, reaching a height of 20 meters plus, with a spread up to perhaps 12 meters. It is prized for its peeling, white, papyrus-like bark and yellow autumn foliage. A good birch for a naturalistic parkland setting. Best in sandy, moist soil. Shallow rooting with many fibrous roots. Good wind resistance. A shallow rooting tree. H7
