'Tristis' is a graceful, tall tree with slender, pendant branches, forming a fairly narrow, symmetrical head. The leaves are exactly like the species and colour well, to golden yellow, in the autumn. Other similar characteristics is the white, peeling bark and the decorative catkins. Requires plenty of water in warm weather until established. Very hardy. A shallow rooting tree
