A smaller and very elegant hornbeam, developing an open, rounded crown with slightly pendulous tips. The foliage is smaller than our native with prominent veins, emerging red becoming dark-green in summer, then orange in autumn. Very conspicuous, large, hop-like, pendulous fruit. Does well in all free-draining soils. Sun to partial shade. H6
