The pecan, largest of the hickories and native to the Mississippi River valley, is an impressive tree reaching up to 30m in height with a handsome, open and broadly-rounded crown. Large, 30-50cm long, pinnate leaves, dark-green in summer, turning buttery-yellow in autumn. Sweet, edible nuts; best crop if cross-pollinated. Tap root. H5
