The shagbark hickory has long been used for tools, curing/smoking meats, and harvested for nuts. Its towering broadly-oval crown bears handsome yellow-green leaves, composed of 5 lance-shaped leaflets, turning buttery yellow in autumn. Attractive peeling bark on older specimens. Decorative male catkins in spring. Requires full sun and shelter. H6
