Perhaps the most iconic tree of churches, cathedrals, and other heritage spaces. Pyramidal when young, but developing over many years into an imposing (or is it sheltering?) flat-topped, wide-spreading tree of open habit. Foliage is green or greyish-green. Cones 8-10cm. A deep rooting species which tolerates most types of soil, provided they are free-draining. A great tree for hot dry spaces.
