A very popular urban tree in Southern Europe, selected for its high tolerance to drought and heat. Develops an attractive, rounded crown with age, bearing glossy ovate, pointed leaves with a serrated edge, similar to nettle. Dark-red, edible fruits follow an inconspicious spring flowering. Good yellow autumn colours. Best in a sheltered and sunny position. H5
