The broadly-columnar habit of this tree is most pleasing; its upswept branches radiate grace and tidyness. Leaves are beautifully jade-green and heart-shaped, creating a dappled light-effect in summer, turning pale yellow or smoky-pink in autumn. With the change in colour a sweet scent arises reminiscent of burned sugar or caramel. Hardy.
