Following its gorgeous display of deep-pink, pea-like flowers on bare stems in spring, 'Merlot's young leaves unfold deep reddish-purple, turning mid-green in summer, then brilliant shades of orange, bronze and red-purple in autumn. Considered more drought and heat tolerant than 'Forest Pansy'. Up to 4m tall. Good on all well-drained soils in full sun. H5
