Deciduous. A curious native tree with upwardly wavy branches, producing rosy-lilac flowers on bare stems in May, and offering pretty kidney-shaped blue-green foliage in summer. Turns yellow in autumn. The purple-tinted seed pods are often conspicuous from July onwards. A deeply rooted species which is fairly well behaved in gardens.
