Native to Japan and Korea, and closely related to C. mas, this vigorous spreading shrub or small tree bears clusters of small, star-shaped, yellow flowers on bare branches in mid-winter. These are followed by decorative and edible, bright red fruits. Beautiful purple and red autumn colours. Attractive, flaking bark. Best in acidic to neutral soil. H6
