Turkish hazel is the largest species of hazel. Its crown has an attractive, pyramidal shape with soft, hairy, rich green leaves. The bark is pale grey-buff, with a thick, corky texture. Produces edible hazelnuts in curious, deeply fringed husks in autumn. Its pendant yellow catkins produced in late winter to early spring are a classic harbinger of spring. Very tolerant of difficult urban growing conditions. Hardy.Deciduous.
