Despite the wide variety of flowering trees, the Handkerchief tree has always attracted and fascinated people. The tree takes its common name from the unusual handkerchief-like blooms, with yellow to purple marblesize flowerheads in their centres, which appear in May. Although often referred to as flowers, the structures are in fact bracts -a showy reconstruction of a leaf. A tree well worth investing in as a mature specimen as blooming can be unreliable in young trees. Fully hardy and amenable to a wide range of site conditions. A shallow rooting tree.
