These shrubs are hardy little plants, able to withstand both harsh winters and hot summers. Their evergreen foliage provides a great splash of colour all year, especially variegated types like 'Aureus' with golden-yellow leaves and a broad dark-green margin. Does well in any well-drained soil in sun or shade. Prune out any reverting branches. May drop leaves in severe winters. RHS hardiness rating: H5
