The Chinese tulip tree is similar to its North American relative, but of slightly smaller stature and with larger more deeply lobed leaves, glaucus beneath. The young leaves and twigs emerge purple, shifting to green as they mature. Brilliant yellow autumn colours. The tulip-shaped flowers are slightly smaller, appearing only on older trees. RHS hardiness rating: H5
