This North American native is a truly graceful and beautiful tree. The habit is loosely pyramidal dressed with exquisite, lustrous dark-green leaves, distinctly silvery beneath. Creamy-white, lemon-scented flowers unfold in May to June followed by 5cm long, dark-red fruits maturing to reveal bright-red seeds. Can manage periods of temporary wet conditions. Requires acidic soil. May drop leaves in severe winters. RHS hardiness rating: H6
