A tree of rather upright habit with attractive, taper-pointed, glossy dark purple leaves which turn a beautiful glowing red in autumn. In spring large, purplish-crimson flowers decorate the canopy, later followed by small, dark red fruits. Does well in any moist, well-draining soil, in sun or part shade as well as on exposed sites. H6
