This deciduous shrub or tree, originally from south-east Europe and west Asia, is primarily grown for its fruit. Leaves are dark green and ovate, which turn a spectacular red in autumn. Typical white, Rosaceae flower in late spring followed by fruit in autumn. Edible after being softened by frost. Self-fertile. Very hardy. Deep rooting.
