'Purpureus' is very similar to the species, sharing it's dense, holly-like appearance; however, the young foliage is tinted a lustrous bronze, giving this cultivar a unique colour palette in spring. Flowers appear in the autumn and are small, white and very fragrant. Will withstand heavy pruning. Prefers moist, well-drained soil and medium shade. H5
