A very rare and slow-growing tree, valued for its elegant habit, smooth grey and silver flaking bark, and exquisite crimson and purple autumn colour. Native to eastern China, and closely related to Persian ironwood, it’s a most attractive ornamental species for gardens and collections. While adaptable, it performs best in slightly acidic to neutral and moist but well-drained soil. H6
