Related to olive, this evergreen Mediterranean native develops into a dense, broadly round shrub reaching 3m. The privet-like leaves are narrow and glossy dark-green. Small, scented, cream-coloured flowers from late spring to early summer are followed by purplish-black fruit. Needs light, well-drained soil. Excellent for coastal sites. H5
