A large relatively fast-growing conifer notable for its steely blue/green foliage and rugged character. Ideal for poor or exposed sites to provide a windbreak, shelterbelt, or woodland planting. The tree is inclined to lose lower branches with maturity, ultimately providing a broken screen at higher levels. Perhaps not the prettiest of trees planted as a single specimen, but excellent in groups or mixed with slower growing evergreens or contrasting deciduous trees such as Silver Birch. Best in full sun and well drained soil and very tolerant of chalk. Deep rooting.
