Populus tremula

Deciduous. A medium to large sized, robust, quick growing native tree tolerant of wide variety of conditions, but especially at home around water. As such, you will often see them planted en masse around lakes, marinas, and reservoirs, their foliage rattling pleasantly in the breeze (hence the name). The leaves are prominently toothed, late in appearing and hanging late in the autumn when they turn a clear butter-yellow. Long grey catkins drape the branchlets in winter. Note: this tree suckers freely.
