This cultivar was introduced to France in 1880. It was obtained from the Shah of Iran's head gardener Monseigneaur Pissard at Tabris. It has dark purple-brown, ovate leaves and very pale pink spring flowers occationally followed by plum-like red or yellow fruits. Extremely popular garden tree, can also be clipped into an attrative, unusal hedge. H6
