This member of the walnut family is a fast-growing 30m tree with a rounded, broad-spreading habit from the east Caucasus and northern Iran. After spring flowering, small green winged nutlets develop in the female catkins in early summer, hence the name wing nut. Glossy dark-green pinnate leaves. Suckers freely. Flat far-reaching roots.
