An attractive evergreen with leathery leaves, here in pleached form. It takes its name from holm, an ancient name for holly. The leaves are glossy, dark green above and pale whitish-grey with dense short hairs below. Edible acorns in atumn. Thrives in all well-drained soils and particularly valueble for coastal planting. Hardy.
