Originally from Japan, this slow-growing evergreen bears intriguing whorls of dark-green needles at the end of its branchlets, like the spokes of an umbrella. The brown cones are very attractive as well as the reddish-brown exfoliating bark. Best grown in moist, rich, slightly acidic, well-drained soils in full sun. Shelter from strong winds. H6
