An evergreen conifer with a dense conical habit in youth, ultimately forming a tall fairly narrow tree with downswept branches. This is an excellent tree for achieving a 'spire' effect, but be sure to give it plenty of room as it ultimately attains a very large size. Deeply furrowed, reddish-brown outer bark. Leaves are awl-shaped, 6-12mm long. Hardy.
