The pagoda tree is native to China but has long been cultivated and naturalised in Japan, grown for its fine, dark-brown timber and fragrant pea-like white flowers on mature specimens in summer. 'Golden Standard' is smaller than the species, offering a splendid splash of colour with vibrant yellow stems and golden spring foliage, maturing to green. H5
