The Eastern Hemlock is a large evergreen conifer of somber, mysterious character. The tree can reach up to 30 meters in height with widely spreading horizontal branches which droop slightly at the tips for a layered effect. It is superb when planted as a solitary specimen in parks and large gardens,where its shape can be appreciated. Best in moist, slightly acidic soil.
